CALL FOR APPLICATION - TRAVEL GRANTS FOR RESEARCH PERIODS ABROAD (2026)
The PhD Programme in Biomedical Sciences promotes international mobility and supports research experiences abroad.
A call is open for 8 travel grants to support PhD students undertaking research periods at universities, research institutions or other qualified centres during 2026. The grant is additional to:
- the individual research budget assigned to each PhD student
- the increase in the PhD scholarship for periods abroad longer than 15 days, provided by the University
If not all grants are awarded, a second call may be issued by the end of 2026.

Positions and Duration
- 16 funded positions available
- Duration: 3 years
- Start date: November 1, 2026
Eligibility
Applicants must hold:
- a Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) awarded in Italy or abroad and recognized by the Italian Ministry of University (MUR)
or
- expect to obtain their degree by September 30, 2026
Funding and Benefits
- Monthly scholarship (recently increased)
- Additional funding for research and conference participation
- Salary increase (+50%) during research periods abroad
- Possibility to spend up to 12 months abroad
Training Requirements
During the programme, PhD students are required to:
- attend at least 1 course per year (2 CFU)
- participate in seminars (minimum 10 per year – 1 CFU)
- attend Journal Club activities (minimum 2 CFU per year)
Supervision and Research Environment
Each PhD student is supervised by a faculty member appointed by the Academic Board and benefits from a structured research and training environment within the Programme.

Evaluation Criteria: Candidates pass the selection if they obtain a minimum score of:
- Preselection: 28/40
- Oral examination: 42/60 (overall equivalent ≥ 7/10)
